The Northbrook Velodrome Training program continues to grow and this year will include the addition of motor paced training. On select Mondays and Tuesdays this season, there will be motor paced training at the velodrome after select Tuesday night training sessions (7/8, 7/22, and 8/26). For some Monday night sessions, there may also be motor pacing but dates have not been set. Please check the Northbrook Velodrome calendar for updates. Motor pacing sessions will include 3-lap sprint drills, Roll ups, Lap On-Lap Off and other drills. There will be a small additional charge beyond the normal charge for training. An annual USAC license is required to participate in the Monday and Tuesday night training sessions. For more information please contact Harold Berman (ucgatemaster at aol.com).

With each new season come updates to the USA Cycling regulations and concerns about safety. Rider please make sure to inspect your gear on your race bikes. Make sure to reglue your tires, and check to make sure cranks, headsets, and bars are all properly adjusted. Additionally, officials have said that they will be checking bikes more closely this year to make sure they conform to USAC regulations. A jig/template for checking bike geometry along with a scale should be at the velodrome this summer so you can make sure your pursuit bike is legal before you head off to Nationals. For more information please contact the NCC and we'll try to field as many questions as we can so we don't all flood Manfred's inbox.

There have been changes in the upgrade policy and the new points structure can be found at their website. USAC has also reemphasized this season the requirement that upgrade points may only come from USAC licensed velodromes.

The Northbrook Cycling Committee is considering introducing a mentoring program for new riders and are looking for volunteers. We would ask that volunteers to commit to advising new riders at least 3 nights during the season either Thursday or Friday night. The hope is that mentors would still race nights they are advising, but help younger racers get their feet under them. If you would be willing to volunteer, please email the Kristin at lohn0005 at hotmail.com

The Northbrook Velodrome continues to make racing easier by having online registration this year through www.sportsbaseonline.com You can register for both a season pass and Thursday night racing on the website. The season pass is $300 ($160 for juniors) and weekly race fees are $20 ($15 for juniors). Annual USAC license required. An additional email will be send when online registration becomes available.

Finally, the next Northbrook Cycling Committee meeting is this Thursday (April 17th) at 7:00 pm. The meeting will be held at the Village Green in Northbrook, Illinois which is located at 1810 Walters Avenue -- just north of the Velodrome. Hope to see you there!
