Hello Riders,
The season opened with an exciting night of racing last Thursday and over 100 racers registering which should mean some great racing as the season continues. We're looking forward to seeing even more people this Thursday night.
- The schedule for Thursday night racing has been updated, and now included on the schedule is a Madison heat for the Cat 1/2 field and a Cat 3/4 Madison heat. Each Cat 3/4 team must include a Cat 4 rider, and all category 4 riders wishing to participate in the Madison must first be certified. This is done either at the Monday or Tuesday night training clinics. (No restrictions for Cat 1/2 teams.) The full schedule is available here.

- A quick reminder about the women's track clinic that is coming up on May 31st. The clinic is open to all women, so come out to the velodrome and learn the basics for riding a track bike and racing at the velodrome. This will include proper track etiquette, group skills, track race descriptions, tactics, and much more. The flyer for the 2008 event can be found here.

- The Northbrook Cycling Committee's own Kristin Arntzen (Alberto's) will be appearing on Chicago Public Radio (91.5 FM WBEZ on your radio dial) May 23rd in a segment called "Fast Faster Fastest". Kristin is the Public Relations Director for the NCC and will be discussing just how fast everyone is at the track. So tell your friends to tune in to find out more about racing at Northbrook.
- Thursday night weather cancellation. We'll be sending an email to the general, women, and junior list if racing is cancelled for the evening. Additionally if you provide your cell phone number AND service provider, we will send you a text message letting you know that racing is cancelled. We need the service provider so that we know where to send the email that will be forwarded to your cell phone. If you would like to be included on the list, please send an email to comm at northbrookvelodrome.org with you cell phone number. (Standard rates apply. Your milage may vary. Don't drive like my brother.)
- Finally, our friends up in Minnesota are putting on quite the track event June 7th and 8th. The Fixed Gear Classic will take place at the National Sports Center Velodrome and is being organized in conjunction with the Nature Valley Grand Prix. A local racer/blogger has guaranteed top level competition and professional organization. Check out the flyer here:
